ST. DAVID'S (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team traveled to take on Eastern University for its final Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game against the Eagles before they move to the other side of the MAC, but it was the home team that earned an 82-62 victory Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (12-9, 7-3 MAC Freedom) started the game with a 16-4 run over the first 5:10 of regulation as Jaelyn Harris scored eight points to lead the charge and the Aggies (1-20, 0-10 MAC Freedom) were 2-for-6 from the field to that point.
Shayne Glenn hit back-to-back treys to close the half and make it a 21-12 game going into the second.
Eastern outscored DelVal, 26-12, in the second quarter as it shot a staggering 59.4% (19-for-32) from the field and 6-for-12 from 3-point land through the first 20 minutes of action to take a 47-24 lead into the break.
Lauren Moretti had nine points in the first half on 4-of-7 shooting to lead the Aggies in the first half, but the Eagles' Jaelyn Harris was 7-for-8 from the field and made 4-of-5 from deep for 20 points.
Eastern's lead grew to as many as 24 points with three minutes left in the third quarter before Moretti cut to the basket for a nice driving layup. Ultimately, the Eagles maintained the 24-point advantage going into the final quarter.
DelVal shot over 50-percent (16-for-31) from the field in the second half and held the Eagles to a 14-for-36 effort, but the visitors could not overcome the deficit and came out on the wrong end of the 82-62 final.
Moretti (22) and Glenn (21) combined for 43 points and each shot near 60-percent from the field to lead the Aggies.
Emily Kutskel also shot a respective 4-for-7 from the field for 10 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
Jordan Hyman dished out seven assists and Moretti followed with six helpers of her own.
Harris finished with 32 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field with eight treys to pace Eastern. Kay Wulah added 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists with two blocks and a steal and Viki Kneis chipped in 14 points.
