Women's Basketball Drops Home Contest To King's

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball played an admirable first quarter but unraveled in the second en route to a 71-42 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom defeat as King's College was crowned the victor.

The Aggies (1-21, 0-11 MAC Freedom) took an early 6-4 lead thanks to a nice pass from Lauren Moretti who found Shayne Glenn for a layup, but the Monarchs (13-9, 7-4 MAC Freedom) scored the next four on back to back layups to take a 10-6 lead. Erin Buckman poured in a layup at the other end to bring the Aggies back within two, but King's went on a 9-4 run over the last four minutes to take a 19-12 lead into the second.

DelVal started strong in the second stanza, with six of the first nine, highlighted by a Sarah Wills three-point field goal to cut the deficit to 22-18. The Monarchs went on a 15-2 run over the remaining six minutes of the half to take a commanding 17-point lead into the second half, 37-20.

Moretti opened the scoring in the second half with a layup assisted by Jordan Hyman, but King's continued to build it's lead with the next five, for a 20-point advantage, 42-22. Moretti added five points over the remainder of the third, including a nice trey, but King's doubled up DelVal 14-7to rest of the way to take a 56-29 lead into the final frame.

The Aggies outscored the Monarchs in the fourth frame, 13-11, but it was not enough as the visitors came away with the 29-point victory.

Seven different players scored for DelVal led by Moretti's 17 points, three assists, three boards, one block and one steal. Wills and Emily Kutskel both came off the bench to contribute five points. Kutskel led the game with five blocks and Wills had a team-high five rebounds.

Mackenzie Yori came off the bench to lead King's with 17 points as she tied Moretti for the game-high. Samantha Rajza, Emily Morano and Emily Kriston also finished with double-digits in points, with 14,13 and 10 respectively.
