GLENNSIDE (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team saw a halftime lead disappear as it was outscored, 8-2, by host Arcadia University who rolled to a 16-9 come-from-behind victory in the fifth annual Battle for the Bucks-Mont Hammer rivalry game.
The Aggies dropped to 2-3 overall while the Knights improved to 3-1.
DelVal got out to a 3-0 lead just five and a half minutes into regulation.
Brandon Keller walked in and fired one into the cage,
Khalil Lindsey scored a man-up goal, and
Dylan Brasch beat the keeper short-side as everything was going the Aggies way.
The teams exchanged goals the remainder of the quarter and DelVal maintained a three-goal, 5-2, lead going into the second.
Arcadia sprinted out to a 3-0 run to start the second with three unassisted tallies in a span of 4:41 to knot the game at five apiece.
Just before the end of the half, the Aggies worked a good clear and
Chris Dearden found
PJ Rafferty in transition to put the Aggies back on top, 6-5, heading into the break.
Early in the third quarter, the Knights tied the game with another unassisted tally, this one from Wesley Sporer, but DelVal's
Matt Waibel countered just 35 seconds later to make it 7-6.
From there Arcadia went on a 6-0 run that spanned 8:18 seconds and gave the home team a 12-7 lead with five minutes left in the stanza.
On the ensuing faceoff,
Bryan Thompson won the draw clean and took it to the house himself, but the Knights got the tally right back to make it 13-8 going into the fourth.
Rafferty netted his second of the day just a minute into the final frame, but Clo Muscara scored the final three of the day for Arcadia to secure the 16-9 triumph and bring the hammer back to Glenside.
Rafferty finished the day with three points on two goals and an assist and Keller and Waibel finished with two goals. Brasch also had a two-point day with a goal and a helper, while Thompson won 21-of-31 (67.7%) of the faceoffs and grabbed 15 ground balls to go with his first goal of the season. Nick Brown played all 60 minutes between the pipes and made 16 saves.
For the Knights, four different players had four points or more led by Muscara's six goals. Sporer followed with three goals and two assists and Brian Albertsen scored four goals. Four different players battled Thompson on the faceoffs ledy by Patrick Ensmenger who went just 8-for-19.
