Women's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker At FDU-Florham

MADISON (NJ) -- The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team held a one-point lead with under a minute to play, but host FDU-Florham scored the final five points to earn a 51-47 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.

Freshman Shayne Glenn scored four points in the opening two and half minutes to help the Aggies to an early 6-2 advantage. The Devils countered with a 12-2 run to pull ahead by six with under two minutes left in the first. DelVal got consecutive field goals from Glenn and Camryn Shaw to close the stanza and go into the second down just two, 14-12, as the duo of Glenn and Shaw combined for 10 of the points in the frame.

FDU-Florham led by as many as eight, 22-14, halfway through the second. Glenn haulted the run with a trey and the Aggies scored eight of the final 10 points in the half to go into the locker room down just two points again, 24-22, at the break.

DelVal outscored the Devils, 12-8, in the second quarter and once again it was Glenn and Shaw that led the way offensively as they combined for nine of the 12 points and Lauren Moretti added three to make it a 34-32 game going into the fourth.

The Aggies opened the final frame with consecutive buckets from Moretti and Emily Kutskel to take their largest lead of the game at six, 38-32.

Over the next three minutes and change, FDU-Florham put together a 12-0 run to pull ahead, 44-38, with 4:20 left in regulation.

Down the other end, Sarah Wills connected from beyond-the-arc to cut the deficit in half, and moments later she fed Glenn who hit a trey of her own to tie the game at 45-45 with just 2:34 left in regulation.

After Jennah Roman went 1-for-2 from the charity stripe, Glenn found Kutskel rolling to the basket and she deposited an easy layup to put the Aggies on top, 47-46, with 1:13 remaining. It remained a one-point game until Roman was fouled with 30 seconds on the clock and sent to the line. She hit both and put the Devils on top by one.

Looking to go back on top, DelVal was forced into a turnover as it advanced the ball up the court, and the home team made its free throws down the stretch to secure the four-point victory.

Glenn played all 40 minutes and led all scorers in the game with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals. Moretti and Shaw followed with eight points with Moretti pulling in eight rebounds and dishing out six assists. Wills had nine boards to go with three points.

Roman led the Devils with 13 points and Jayda Bing followed with 12 points and nine rebounds.
