Men's Hoops Falls In Overtime To The Monarchs

DOYLESTOWN  (Pa.) – Visiting King's College got a game-tying trey from Josh Bailey with 9.2 seconds left in regulation and it outscored the Delaware Valley University men's basketball team, 10-3, in overtime to secure a 77-70 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.

After Bailey's corner 3-pointer, the Aggies (6-15, 2-9 MAC Freedom) had a chance to go ahead with under 10 seconds to play and Mike Cianciulli kicked a pass out to Francis Rose who tried a long-range three, but it went in-and-out and sent the game to extra time.

In the early going, the Monarchs (12-10, 5-6 MAC Freedom) held a 6-2 lead before DelVal went on an 18-7 run to hold a seven point lead 11:22 into regulation. Cianciulli led the spurt with eight points.
King's closed the half with a 7-3 run as the Aggies' lead was trimmed to three at the break, 32-29.

Each team made 11 field goals and three treys in the first half, but DelVal held a 26-13 advantage on the glass. The Monarchs forced the Aggies into 13 turnovers and only committed four of their own.

King's opened the second half with a 7-1 run to pull ahead, 36-33. It went back-and-forth the rest of the way and the largest lead was held by the Aggies at 60-54 with 3:35 left in regulation. From there, the Monarchs used a 10-4 lead to knot the score at 64-64 with 53 seconds remaining.

Down the other end, Jordan Tucker dished a pass off inside to Dwayne Caine, Jr. who finished to give the Aggies a two-point lead with 31 seconds left.

DelVal got a stop down the other end and Tucker earned a pair of free throws, and a chance to make it a two-possession game with 15 ticks remaining. He hit one-of-two to make it 67-64, and the Monarchs sprinted down the other end and set up Bailey in the corner to send the game to ultimately send the game to overtime.

The Aggies went 1-for-5 from the field, 0-for-3 from deep, and 1-for-4 from the charity stripe while the visitors were 3-for-8, 1-for-2, and 3-for-6 to pull away with the victory.

Tucker had all three points in the extra session and finished with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go with five rebounds. Cianciulli led DelVal with 20 points and added four assists while Francis Robles and Thomas Ibidapo hauled in 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively. Caine came off the bench and recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go with two blocked shots. He was 4-for-8 from the field and added two blocks and an assist.

Kevin Hunter led all scorers with 33 points including five treys to go with six rebounds. Tyler Faux followed with 12 points and Andrew Hudak grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
