Women's Hoops Upended At Home By Stevens

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball hosted Stevens Institute of Technology for the first time ever, but it was the visiting team that ran away with an 80-48 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.

The Ducks (7-12, 5-5) opened the game with a nine-point run over the first 4:51 of play. Emily Kutzkel got the Aggies (1-18, 0-8) on the board off a layup in tight assisted by Sarah Wills, and her six points in the first quarter led the team as DelVal went into the second down, 20-8.
 
Stevens remained hot in the second and opened up the frame with a 10-0 spurt to pull ahead, 30-8. DelVal responded with an 8-2 run highlighted by Lauren Moretti's first trey of the game, but the Ducks rallied again and took a 42-18 lead into halftime.
 
Stevens was an impressive 17-for-36 (47.2%) from the field and 7-for-15 (46.7%) from deep. The home team shot at a clip under 30-percent through the first 20 minutes.
 
The Aggies came out hot in the second half and plucked away at the Ducks lead with eight of the first 11 points to trim the deficit to 45-26. However, Stevens closed the frame with a 15-5 run over the final six minutes to make it 60-31 going into the fourth quarter.
 
DelVal was narrowly edged in the final stanza, 20-17, and the visitors from Hoboken, New Jersey walked away with the 80-48 victory.
 
Kutskel tied a career-high with 16 points, including an 8-for-10 effort from the free throw line, two rebounds and two assists. Moretti finished the game with 16 points and went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc while grabbing three rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Glenn had seven points, one rebound and three assists off the bench.
 
Allie Moss and Jess Broad led Stevens up front with 18 and 17 points, respectively. As a team, the Ducks out rebounded DelVal, 52-29. The Aggies will finish their three-game homestand as they host Misericordia this Wednesday, February 5, at 8 p.m.
