WILKES-BARRE (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team traveled to King's College for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest, but came home on the wrong end of a 70-50 final score.
The Monarchs remained atop the league standings at 6-0 and improved to 12-5 overall while the Aggies fell to 1-16 and 0-6.
King's started the game with a 13-2 run led by senior all-conference player Rebecca Prociak's six points.
Sophomore's
Emily Kutskel and
Kyarra Williams brought DelVal back as they combined for an 8-0 run to make it a three-point game with under two minutes left in the first. Samantha Rajza closed the quarter with her second trey of the game to put the Monarchs up, 16-10, going into the second.
Prociak and Rajza combined for seven points in the second and King's led by as many as 12 on two different occasions in the second. Kutskel and
Lauren Moretti combined for nine points in the stanza and helped the Aggies cut the deficit to single digits, 31-22, at halftime.
The Monarchs did most of their damage in the third quarter as they outscored DelVal, 22-12, and they extended their lead to 19 points going into the final quarter.
King's led by as many as 23 in the fourth quarter before the Aggies put together an 11-5 run to get back within 17 with 3:10 left in regulation. The two teams combined for just three field goals the rest of the way and the home team held on for its sixth-straight MAC Freedom win.
Moretti led DelVal with 13 points and Kutskel followed with 12 as the duo combined for half of the Aggies scoring and combined to go 11-for-26 from the field and 14 rebounds. Moretti added five assists and five steals.
Shayne Glenn came off the bench and added eight points and four rebounds.
Prociak and Rajza scored 20 and 21 points, respectively, and each grabbed six boards. Rajza added a game-high five blocked shots. Sara Wolbert came off the bench and contributed eight points and six rebounds.
