DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team was limited offensively in the second half and suffered a 73-44 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom defeat to visiting FDU-Florham Wednesday night.
The Aggies (1-15, 0-5 MAC Freedom) fell behind by six in the first quarter, but used a 7-0 run to take a 12-11 lead with 3:12 left in the stanza.
Lauren Moretti hit a trey to start the run and added a layup to lead the charge.
The Devils (3-13, 1-4 MAC Freedom) countered with six unanswered points to lose the first quarter and take a 17-12 lead into the second.
The lead grew to seven, 21-14, early in the second before DelVal went on a 10-5 run to cut the gap to two with 4:42 left before the half. It remained a four-point game until the final 45 seconds of the half when Jayda Bing and Aleah Bass each deposited two points to give FDU-Florham a 34-26 lead going into the break.
The Aggies held a 19-17 lead in rebounds in the first half but made just 10-off-33 field goals compared to 11-of-24 for the visitors.
The third quarter was all Devils as they outscored DelVal, 25-3 behind six points from Meadow Garcia off the bench. The Aggies won the fourth quarter, 15-14, but it wasn't enough as FDU-Florham held on for the 73-44 final score.
Nine different players scored for DelVal led by Moretti's nine points.
Erin Buckman came off the bench to contribute a season high six points with four rebounds and two steals.
Bing led all players in the game with 19 points and Cayla Staggers followed with 18 for the Devils. Bing secured her double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds and added three assists.
