CENTER VALLEY (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team dropped its second Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game of the week as it traveled to first place DeSales University and came home with a 79-57 setback.
The Aggies fell to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in league play while the Bulldogs improved to 11-4 and 4-0.
DeSales started the game with a 16-6 run over the first seven minutes of action as Matt Kachelries and Kewku Dawson-Amoah each poured in five points. The lead grew to 21-8 at the halfway point of the first half as DelVal was just 4-for-11 from the field and 0-for-3 from deep at the point.
The Bulldogs led by as many as 18, 30-12, with under five to play before the break. The Aggies finished the stanza with a 14-10 edge to head into halftime down, 40-26.
The difference in the first half was the charity stripe as DeSales was 13-for-13 while DelVal was just 0-for-2.
The Aggies scored seven of the first 10 points in the second half to cut the deficit to 10, 43-33. The home team countered with a 9-3 spurt to extend its lead back to 16, six minutes into the second stanza.
The lead ballooned to as many as 28 points at the 6:11 mark of the second half and DeSales remained perfect in league play with the 79-57 triumph.
The Bulldogs finished the game shooting nearly 50-percent from the field and went 7-for-18 from beyond the arc, and 20-for-24 from the charity stripe. The Aggies were 26-for-62 (41.9%) from the field and 1-for-9 from 3-point land, but shot just 4-for-11 from the line. DeSales also held a 39-29 edge in rebounds.
Senior
Mike Cianciulli led DelVal with 12 points and Dwayne Caine, Jr. followed with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and he added five rebounds.
Damian Washington netted nine points and
Jordan Tucker followed with eight while
Nestor Diaz secured a team-best seven boards with six points.
Four players reached double-digit scoring for the Bulldogs led by Keba Mitchell's 16 points and a 6-for-6 effort from the line. Kachelries followed with 14 points including two treys while Dawson-Amoah and Timmy Edwards each scored 13.
The Aggies will look to get back to their winning ways at home on Wednesday in a MAC Freedom contest against FDU-Florham at 6 p.m.
