Women's Hoops Goes Cold At Stockton

STOCKTON (Nj.) -- The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team had a hard time finding twine at Stockton University on Monday night and dropped a 55-38 non-conference affair.

The Aggies (1-12) scored the first four points of the game and were up 6-2 after 3:18 of play. The Ospreys (6-8) got a quick layup and a steal to take the lead and continued on to a 12-0 run to go ahead, 14-6, late in the first quarter. The Aggies trailed 16-7 going into the second. 

It took 2:24 for either team to score in the second stanza when Lauren Moretti got a steal and turned into a two-point jumper. The two squads played an even second quarter, 12-12, and DelVal trailed 28-19 at halftime. 

After Lajerah Wright hit a jumper to make it an 11-point lead for Stockton, the Aggies went on a 7-2 run to make it a 32-26 game with four minutes left in the third. Jordan Hyman, Sarah Wills, and Emily Kutskel all had field goals in the run. 

The Ospreys grew the lead back to 11 points, 42-31, going into the fourth quarter. DelVal ended the game the way the started it with seven points in the stanza and Stockton put up 13 points to secure the 55-38 home victory. 

The Aggies shot under 25% from the field, 50% from 3-point land, and went 0-for-17 from beyond the arc. Moretti, the junior guard, led the team with 18 points and added eight rebounds. Kutskel followed with six points and a team-high 12 boards with two blocked shots. Hyman was the next highest scorer with five points and she grabbed two steals. 

Stockton shot just over 30% from the field and only made 2-of-11 from deep and finished 9-for-16 from the charity stripe. Kiley Gelston scored a team-best 11 points and grabbed six rebounds, while finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. 

DelVal will resume conference play on Wednesday night at home against Misericordia Universeity at 8 p.m.
