DALLAS (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team hit the road for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game versus Misericordia University Thursday night, but dropped a 77-36 decision.
The Cougars improved to 13-1 on the season while the Aggies dropped 1-13 overall.
Misericordia jumped out to a 7-0 lead but DelVal did its best to match the Cougars intensity as each team scored eight points over the next several minutes of the first quarter. The Aggies trailed 18-8 going into the second.
Misericordia increased its lead with a nine-point run to open the second quarter, 29-8. DelVal scored six of the next 10 but finished the half down 39-14.
The Cougars opened the third stanza with another nine-point run. Each team added an additional nine points over the remainder of the frame, highlighted by a
Jordan Hyman steal which
Lauren Moretti capitalized on for a trey. Misericordia led 57-23 headed into the fourth quarter.
The Cougars won the final ten minutes, 20-13, and cruised to the 77-36 victory.
The Aggies shot just over 25% from the field, under 17% from 3-point land, and went 6-for-13 from the free-throw line. Misericordia had 61 of the games 91 rebounds.
Freshman guard, Hyman, led the team with seven points and added one rebound, one steal, and an assist.
Sarah Wills followed with six points and a team-high six boards with one steal and one block.
Shayne Glenn also had six points to go along with four rebounds and an assist.
Misericordia shot just over 43% from the field and went 9-of-19 from deep and finished 2-for-8 from the free-throw line. Tessa Zamolyi had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Gianna Delfino also finished the game with 13 points.
DelVal will resume conference play on Saturday at DeSales University at 1:00 p.m.
