DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team fell into an early hole and could not climb out as it dropped a home Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game to Eastern University, 78-54.
The Aggies (1-11, 0-2 MAC Freedom) were outscored 28-12 in the first quarter as the Eagles (6-6, 1-1 MAC Freedom) got out to a 17-5 lead just 5:25 into the game, and finished the stanza with an 11-7 run. Eastern's shooters were hot as they went 11-for-17 from the field in the first 10 minutes.
The lead grew to 37-17 with just under eight minutes left in the half, but DelVal used 9-2 run to close the second quarter and make it a 39-26 game at the half. The Aggies outscored the Eagles, 14-11, in the second quarter as they held the visitors to just 3-of-14 shooting from the field in the stanza.
Eastern regained its scoring touch in the third quarter as they shot over 50-percent from the field and held DelVal to 4-of-14 as the Green and Gold found itself trailing, 66-38, going into the fourth.
The Aggies won the fourth quarter, 16-12, but it was not enough as the Eagles came away victorious in the second league game of the season.
DelVal shot 17-for-47 (36.2%) from the field and just 4-for-17 from 3-point land. It was outrebounded 44-24 and was forced into 19 turnovers. Freshman Shayne Glenn led the way with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting and junior Lauren Moretti followed with 17 points to go with five rebounds and three steals. Emily Kutskel led the squad with eight boards but managed just three points on 1-of-3 shooting. Sarah Wills played 36 minutes and pitched in seven points, five rebounds, and two assists.
All five of Eastern's starters finished with double-digits led by Jaelyn Harris' 20 points including five treys. Kay Wulah posted a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The Aggies will take on Stockton University on the road on Monday as the two teams make up an earlier postponed game. DelVal will return to MAC Freedom play on Wednesday as it welcomes in Misericordia for an 8 p.m. tip.
