DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Senior Jamie Stefani became the all-time hits leader in Delaware Valley University softball history, but the Aggies suffered a pair of losses at Marywood University in non-conference action on Sunday. The Pacers took the opener, 3-1, and won game two, 12-4.
Stefani took to the circle to start game one and allowed just one hit through four innings as DelVal took a 1-0 lead into the fifth. The Aggies run came in the second when freshman Caitlyn Pollock singled down the left field line to score Faith Sleva who was aboard on a walk.
Marywood came alive in the fifth with three runs on six hits and one error. The first three batters singled, but Pollock made a nice throw from center field to get one runner out at the plate. The next batter, Sarah Hayes, laced a double down the line to plate two and give the Pacers a 2-1 lead. After an error and a single, the advantage grew to 3-1.
DelVal left two runners stranded in the sixth and went down in order in the seventh to end the game. Caitlin Stoner led the team with two hits and Pollock had the lone RBI. Stefani surrendered three runs (two earned) on nine hits and two errors with two punch outs.
Kaitlyn Epler, Julianna Beidler, and Megan Gaeb each had two hits to lead the Pacers and Kirstie Alvarez pitched a complete game with four hits allowed and six strikeouts.
The Aggies got off to a hot start in the second game with two runs on five hits in the opening frame. Four consecutive singles led to an RBI for Stoner and a run scored by Maddy O'Donohue. Pollock picked up an RBI single later in the frame to plate Sleva and make it 2-0.
Marywood countered with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first. Sierra Mulgrew picked up a pair of RBIs with a single up the middle. The Pacers grew their lead to 5-2 after two runs on three hits in the second.
In the top of the fourth, history was made, as Stefani stepped to the plate and smoked a two-RBI double to right field for the school-record 156th hit of her storied career. That pulled the Aggies within one of the lead, 5-4.
The Pacers went on to score three in the bottom of the fourth ad four more in the sixth while holding DelVal to no runs on two hits to earn the sweep with a 12-4 win in six innings.
Stefani went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in in the nightcap and O'Donohue was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Stoner remained hot with a 2-for-3 effort and an RBI and Adina Brucie was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
