York (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University softball team took the road for its second doubleheader away from home this week and suffered a pair of non-conference defeats to York College (Pa.) by scores of 2-1, and, 8-0.
The Spartans (18-12) got their lead-off hitter aboard with an infield hit in game one and, two batters later, Alyssa Harhigh gave York a 1-0 lead with an RBI double down the left field line.
The Aggies (7-19) tied the game in the fifth as Adina Brucie worked a walk and stole second, and Jamie Stefani drove her home with a two-out double to left-center field.
DelVal managed just one hit in the sixth and seventh frames and the Spartans came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with the scored still knotted at one. Harhigh led off with a single, and two batters later, Taylor Lindsay hit a ball to center field that was misplayed and allowed Harhigh to come all the way around from first base to end the game, 2-1.
The Aggies had five hits in the game led by Stefani's 2-for-3 effort and the lone run driven in. Olivia Monismith also went 2-for-3 and Caitlyn Pollock was 1-for-3. Stefani got the start in the circle and fell to 3-10 on the year after allowing just two runs, one earned, on eight hits and 10 strikeouts.
Three different Spartans had multiple hits including Harhigh who picked up an RBI and a run scored. Lindsay earned the win in the circle to improve to 4-3.
In the nightcap, DelVal was held to just one hit as Ginger Lewis pitched a five-inning shutout with eight punch outs. Harhigh hit a three-run homer out to left field in the third frame and Mia Ruffalo sent a two-run shot out to center field in the fourth for the 8-0 final.
Stefani had the only hit in the game for the Aggies, a single up the middle in the fourth inning, and Pollock suffered the loss in the circle.
DelVal will host Gwynedd Mercy for another non-conference twin bill on Thursday at 3 p.m.
