DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe King's College swept a Saturday doubleheader from host Delaware Valley University, 6-4 and 9-2
The Monarchs improved to 13-12, 3-5 MAC Freedom, while the Aggies fell to 7-15, 2-6 MAC Freedom.
In the first game, King's took an early 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first with an RBI single to right field. In the bottom half of the first, freshman
Faith Sleva hit an RBI double to center field to bring in
Maddy O'Donohue.
Caitlyn Pollock helped the Aggies get the lead with an RBI single to left field, and
Jamie Stefani advanced home.
The Monarchs added one run apiece in the second and fourth innings to regain the lead. After a scoreless fifth for both teams, and with runners on first and second, Taylor Norris hit a double to centerfield for two RBI's and a 5-2 lead. After the initial inning, DelVal went scoreless and hitless until the bottom of the seventh.
King's College added an insurance run in the top half of the seventh for a four point lead.
Adina Brucie got a late rally started for the Aggies. With two outs already on the board, Brucie raced to first base on a perfectly placed bunt for a single, and stole second during the next at-bat. Brucie also looked sharp in right field, single handedly ending the previous inning as she caught a foul and two fly balls. O'Donohue kept the rally alive with an RBI-double to center field. Stefani and Sleva kept the hits coming with singles to make it a two-run game. Unfortunately, this would be as close as they would get. A ground out to the pitcher ended the rally and the game, 6-4.
Stefani pitched a complete-game with six runs on 14 hits, five strikeouts, and one walk. The Monarchs Kristina Kocher also pitched a complete-game in the victory.
In the second game, DelVal found itself in an 8-0 hole after only one inning as King's scored eight runs on eight hits. The Monarchs extended their lead to nine one run in the second.
DelVal's offense registered just six hits in the nightcap including three in the bottom of the fifth that led to two runs. Freshman
Gabrielle Landis lead off with her first career hit and, after a wild pitch, Brucie moved her over to third with a bunt single. O'Donohue plated Landis with a sacrifice bunt. Sleva came up next and drove in Brucie with a single to left field to make it 9-2.
Starting pitcher
Olivia Monismith suffered the loss with seven earned runs allowed and
Caitlyn Pollock pitched three innings with five hits and one earned run against. Stefani pitched the final 3.2 frames and surrendered just two hits.
Nicole Krise pitched a complete game and allowed six hits in the win with six punch outs.
The Aggies get right back at it tomorrow afternoon with another doubleheader as they travel to Scranton, Pa. to face Marywood University at 1 p.m.
