Aggies Honor Seniors Before Dropping Season Finale To Cougars

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) –  The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team played its final game of the regular season and honored its four seniors before dropping a hard fought contest to visiting Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Misericordia University, 10-8.

The Aggies honored the careers of their seniors Jared Feuer, Jarrett Kramer, Jordan Smith, and Eric Sullivan with a pregame ceremony.

The Cougars (9-6, 5-2 MAC Freedom) jumped on DelVal early by winning the first quarter, 7-1. Khalil Lindsey got the scoring started with a bounce shot that beat the keeper off a feed from Alex Gunderson to put the Aggies up, 1-0, but Misericordia responded with a 7-0 run to finish the stanza. Nick Torzilli, Sean McSwiggan, and Brandon Winslow each scored twice in the run.

DelVal got the first goal of the second from Lindsey and won the quarter, 2-1, to make it an 8-3 contest at the break. Matt Waibel picked up the other goal for the Aggies and they held a 16-15 advantage in shots on goal through the first 30 minutes.

DelVal continued to outplay the visitors in the second half and cut its deficit in half, 8-4, when Dylan Brasch setup Jordan Smith just over halfway into the quarter. The Cougars got the goal back less than a minute later with an unassisted tally from Ailen Thomas to regain the five-goal lead.

The Aggies fought back with three goals in the final five minutes of the third quarter to pull within two, 9-7, going into the fourth. Smith scored twice and Lindsey added another as both players completed their hat tricks.

Ryan Vanderberg scored his first of the day for Misericordia to give it a 10-7 lead with over nine minutes still to play.

DelVal couldn't get another one to the back of the net until the final minute of the game when Brandon Keller setup Dylan Brasch. That is all the Aggies would muster down the stretch and Misericordia held on for the, 10-8, final.

Lindsey and Smith led DelVal with three points apiece and Gunderson picked up two assists. Brasch added a goal and a helper while Keller and Waibel each finished with a point. Senior Eddie Sullivan made his first start in goal and made three saves in one quarter of work and Nic Brown finished the game with 13 saves and three goals allowed. Sean Mylod was strong defensively with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Bryan Thompson went 8-for-22 on faceoffs and scooped five ground balls.

The Cougars played three different keepers and starter Matt Beck got the win after making 13 saves. McSwiggan led the team with four points on two goals and two assists and Torzilli finished with two goals and one helper for three points. Garrett Heidecker won 11-of-12 faceoffs he attempted.

Misericordia wrapped up the third seed in the MAC Freedom after all of today's action and will head to No. 2 DeSales for the first round of the playoffs.
