RADNOR (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team started and finished strong, but host Cabrini College erupted for 29 hits and 23 runs on its way to a, 29-11, nine inning non-conference rout.
The Cavaliers improved to 28-7 overall while the Aggies fell to 12-21 on the year with five games remaining.
Timmy Lallis opened the game with a double to the gap in left center and
Tom Crooks moved him to third with a single through the right side.
Ryan Schuetrumpf came up next and drove in Lallis with a sacrifice fly. After Crooks stole second,
Cody Brown singled to drive him in and put DelVal up 2-0.
In the bottom of the first, Cabrini worked three consecutive walks and scored a run after a hit batter. The Aggies led 2-1 after one.
DelVal left two runners on base after a pair of singles in the second and the Cavaliers went to work offensively. The Aggies handed Cabrini six walks and two hit batters in the inning and it only needed three hits to score eight runs.
DelVal got two back in the top of the third on one hit. Brown singled into left and came around to score on an error, and
Josh Adamski drove home
Neal Flogel with a sacrifice fly to make it 9-4.
In the bottom of the third, the Cavaliers tacked on six more runs on six hits to take a nine-run lead. Joe Aurite had the big blow with a bases-loaded three RBI double. They scored seven more times in the fourth and five more in the fifth to run away with a 26-4 lead after five.
After a scoreless sixth, DelVal outscored Cabrini 7-3 over the final three frames for the 29-11 final.
Brown, Crooks, and Lallis each had three hits and combined to score seven runs and drive in four. Adamski finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. The Aggies threw six different pitchers and
Mike Koslin was given the loss.
The Cavaliers got hits from 11 different players and eight recorded multiple hits. Catcher Brian Protesto led the way with a 4-for-6 effort, four RBI, and four runs scored. Four different players pitched and reliever Drew Swire earned his seventh win after two innings of scoreless ball.
The Aggies return home tomorrow for the first of a three-game MAC Freedom series against defending champion Misericordia University at 3:30 PM.
