CLERMONT (Fl.) – The Delaware Valley University softball team exploded for 14 runs to earn its first win of the 2019 season with a commanding 14-1 victory over SUNY-Potsdam in the second game of the day on Wednesday.
After going down in order in the first, the Aggies (1-3) brought 10 batters to the pate in the bottom of the second and scored five runs on seven hits and one error.
Julie Burns drove a triple into the right field corner to plate
Morgan Hawk and
Faith Sleva for the first runs of the game and two batters later
Adina Brucie knocked a single to left to score Burns. The next batter,
Maddy O'Donohue, continued her hot start to the season with a bunt single and Brucie came all the way around from first to score after an error. After O'Donohue swiped second,
Jamie Stefani brought her home with single to center to make it 5-0 going into the third.
The Bears (3-5) score their lone run in the third inning when Megan Fish singled home Brooke Falsion.
DelVal's offense went back to work in the third as it sent 14 batters to the dish and plated nine runs with seven hits and an error. Brucie and Burns each picked up two RBI's with doubles to right field and
Kayla Keller delivered a bases loaded single that plated two.
Morgan Brown and Gallagher chipped in with RBI singles of their own.
Julie Burns got the start on the mound and gave up just three hits, two walks, and one earned run in three innings of work. Freshman
Caitlyn Pollock made her first collegiate appearance on the mound and pitched two innings of scoreless ball while striking out two and allowing just one hit.
Nine different Aggies got a hit in the game led by a 3-for-3 effort from Hawk who came around to score three times. Burns helped herself with four RBI's and two runs scored on two hits and Brucie finished with two hits, three runs driven in, and two runs scored. Keller was 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a walk.
DelVal will wrap up its spring break trip in Florida with a 3:45 contest against Univerisity of Wisconsin – Superior followed by a 6 p.m. game against Husson University.
