DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team downed Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham at home for its second straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory. DelVal erupted for a season-high in points en route to the 94-64 victory.
FDU-Florham (7-16, 2-10 MAC Freedom) came out of the gate strong and went on a seven point run to take a 9-4 lead early in the game.
However, the Aggies (10-13, 4-8 MAC Freedom) were able to collect themselves and went on a seven point run late in the first quarter to take a 21-15 advantage with just under 2:30 on the clock.
The two teams traded baskets the rest of the way and DelVal took a 29-23 lead into the second quarter. The Aggies connected on 4-of-7, 57.1%, of its treys in the opening stanza.
The Devils put up 17 points in the second quarter to just 13 for DelVal but the Aggies remained resilient.
Danielle Skedzielewski and
Ashley Smink each hit a trey late in the stanza and DelVal took a 42-40 lead into halftime.
DelVal opened the second half with nine unanswered points for what would be its largest run of the game and a 51-40 advantage. As a team, it shot 11-for-14 (78.6%) from the field compared to 2-for-12 (16.7%) by FDU in the third quarter. Smink and
Dom Moser combined for 17 points in the stanza to lead the way and the Aggies carried a commanding 68-49 advantage into the fourth.
In the final frame, the Aggies used a 7-2 run over the first 2:30 to extend their lead to 75-51 and cruised to the 94-64 victory.
The 94 points were the most in a single-game for DelVal since a 104-42 win over Goucher College back on November 29, 2018, and its most in over decade against a MAC Freedom rival.
Moser recorded a double-double for DelVal with a game-high 21 points and 14 rebounds to go with four assists and four steals. Smink followed with 18 points and Skedzielewski and
Monika Smallwood each scored 13.
Amber Grohowski grabbed nine rebounds and added seven points.
As a team, DelVal out rebounded FDU, 49-31, and held a 14-10 advantage in the turnover department.
The Devils Helen Ishmael nearly recorded a double-double as well, picking up 14 points and nine rebounds. Jennah Roman led the team with 17 points and Kayla Croswell scored 13 with four boards. Raven Dowling contributed nine points and three steals and Cayla Staggers finished with eight points.
