BETHLEHEM (Pa.) – Moravian College scored nine unanswered goals to pull away from the visiting Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team and earn a 12-6 non-conference victory.
The Aggies (0-2) struck first with two goals separated by just 48 seconds in the early going.
Jordan Smith and Alex Gunderson each picked up their third goals of the season on unassisted tallies.
From there, the Greyhounds (2-0) scored nine straight times and held DelVal off the board for the majority of two quarters. Mark Laratta had four goals and an assist and Cade Siddron scored twice. It was 7-2 Moravian at the half, but the Greyhounds kept coming and scored twice in the third and led by seven with 6:48 on the third quarter clock.
The Aggies got one back when P.J. Rafferty found a wide open
Ben Napieralski who beat the keeper one-on-one to make it 9-3.
Laratta answered right back with his fifth of the day to make it 10-3 going into the fourth. Moravian tacked on two more in the fourth, and Laratta scored his sixth of the day and one hundredth of his career.
Dylan Brasch scored twice for the Aggies in the final stanza, including one man-up goal on a nice feed from Smith. His second was a laser to the top corner after a find from
Jared Feuer.
Matt Waibel added one from straight away, off an assist from Brasch, in the waning minutes for the 12-6 final.
Nic Brown played all 60 minutes in goal and made 14 saves.
Bryan Thompson won 11-of-22 face-offs and DelVal was 1-for-7 on man-up opportunities.
Jerad Wilson had a team-high nine ground balls and forced one turnover.
Moravian held a 26-19 edge in shots on goal, but were held to 0-for-3 on man-up chances. Laratta finished with seven points and scooped four ground balls. John Polich led the team with seven ground balls and Jimmy Schicke forced a game-high five turnovers with four ground balls. Kurt Dick made 13 saves in net.
The Aggies will host Arcadia University in their home opener and the Battle for the Bux-Mont Hammer on Friday night at 7 p.m.
