BRYN ATHYN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team traveled to Bryn Athyn College for its final game of 2019 and came away with a 78-65 non-conference victory behind junior
Jordan Tucker and his 17 rebounds and 15 points.
The Aggies (4-5) got off to a good start as Tucker stole a pass and sprung junior
Damian Washington for a dunk to make it 2-0.
The Lions (0-11) held the largest lead of the first half at 14-8 with 10:43 left in the first half. Moments later, Dante Lanzetta hit his third 3-pointer of the game to make it 17-13 halfway through the stanza.
DelVal went on an 8-3 run over the next three minutes to regain the lead, 21-20. Tucker had two rebounds, two assist, a steal, and a layup and Washington had four points in the run. The Aggies largest lead of the first half came after consecutive treys by Washington and freshman
Francis Robles made it 35-27 with a minute remaining.
Bryn Athyn's Tariq Moore made it a 32-30 game at the break with a late 3-pointer.
Washington had 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting in the first half with a blocked shot and a steal on the defensive end, and Tucker had five points, five boards, four assists, and two steals. As a team, DelVal was shooting 41.9% and the defense held the Lions to an 8-for-24 (33.3%) effort.
The score was tied five times through the first 7:30 of the second half, the last at 51-51. Over the next seven minutes, the Aggies ripped off a 17-6 run to get out to their largest lead of the game, 68-57, with under nine minutes left in regulation. Sophomore
Nestor Diaz came off the bench to contribute five points, an assist, and a block in the stretch. Washington capped the run with his second dunk of the game and DelVal's lead grew to as many as 13 points in the waning minutes before it closed out the 78-65 win.
Tucker finished with six assists, three blocks, and two steals to go with his 15 points and game-high 17 rebounds. Washington led all scorers with 28 points and added seven boards, three blocks, a steal and an assist. Hill also got into double digits with 10 points and
Mike Cianciulli added 11 rebounds, seven points, and five assists. Diaz played 29 minutes and notched nine rebounds and nine points.
Bryn Athyn placed five players in double-digit scoring led by Moore's 19 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Lanzetta came off the bench for 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds with two blocked shots and two steals.
DelVal is off until January 3 when it travels to Haverford College for a 4 p.m. tip.
