DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- Visiting Rosemont College got a go-ahead jumper from Jordan Dawson with 3.8 seconds left in regulation to complete a 63-62 come-from-behind victory over the Delaware Valley University women's basketball team in the 2019-20 season opener.
After going down 3-0 early,
Sarah Wills made a nice pass to
Emily Kutskel for the Aggies first points of the season. Both teams traded several layups as they battled to a 7-7 tie through the first seven minutes after the tip off. From there, a three-pointer from
Shayne Glenn started a run for the Aggies as they scored 14 of the next 15 points to close out the first quarter with a 21-8 advantage. Glenn finished the quarter with a team-high eight points, one rebound, one steal and one block in a dominant quarter for DelVal.
After making 50-percent of their shots from the field in the first quarter, the Aggies continued to outshoot the Ravens in the second. DelVal started the quarter with Kutskel hitting two free-throws.
Chloe Baker added to the lead with a good jump shot from in tight which was assisted by another nice pass from
Sarah Wills, making it 25-8 at the 14-minute mark. Both teams went back-and-forth through the remainder of the second quarter, and DelVal maintained a 17-point, 35-18, lead a the break.
DelVal shot 38.7%Â from the field, compared to just 14.6% from the field for Rosemont in the first half.Â
The Aggies led by as many as 18 early in the third quarter before the Ravens went on a 15-3 run over the next 6:10 of play to pull within six, 41-35. DelVal responded with a 7-1 run to close the frame and take a 48-36 lead into the fourth. Ricks and Jordan Dawson led the Ravens comeback attempt with six and five points, respectively, in the third frame.
Rosemont would not go away, picking up 10 of the quarters first 13 points to make it 51-46 for just a five-point advantage in favor of DelVal. After holding onto the lead for thirty-three minutes, a three pointer with forty-seconds remaining by Ke'Aloh Naone-Carter put the Ravens within one, 62-61, setting up Jordan Dawson's late-game heroics. With 3.8 seconds remaining on the clock, Dawson pulled up and hit a jump shot to take the Ravens only lead since early in the first quarter.
With no time-outs remaining,
Lauren Moretti threw an off-target desperation shot towards the net but it fell short and Rosemont escaped with the 63-62 victory. Rosemont shot 55.6 percent (17-35) from the field in the final quarter and 9-for-13 from the free-throw line.
Kutskel finished the game with a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds, to go along with five blocks and two assists.
Shayne Glenn followed with fourteen points to go with two blocks and thre boards, as she when two-for-three from outside the three-point line. Moretti notched 10 points and three steals while
Jordan Hyman and
Sarah Wills each finished with six and Wills dished out five helpers.Â
Ricks led all players in teh game with 17 points to go with 16 rebounds and Naone-Carter notched 16 points and four assists.Â
DelVal will look to bounce-back on Tuesday as the team travels to Rowan University for its first road game of the season at 7:00 p.m.
