MIDDLETOWN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team picked up its first win of the year as it defeated Wesley College, 66-48, in the first round of the Pride. Spirit. Honor. Tournament hosted by Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday night.
The Aggies improved to 1-4 overall and will face the host Lions who got past Lehman College with a convincing 72-33 win in the other first round game. The Wolverines fell to 1-3 overall and will take on Lehman in the consolation game.Â
DelVal hit three treys in the first quarter, one from
Lauren Moretti,
Jordan Hyman, and
Shayne Glenn, to win the first quarter 16-7 as they held Wesley to just 23.1-percent shooting from the field.Â
The Wovlerines began the second quarter with a 7-2 run to cut the Aggies lead to four. with 5:48 left in the half. Glenn responded with the next four points and Moretti added a 3-pointer to get the lead back to double-digits, 25-14, with under four minutes remaining in the half. DelVal maintained a 31-19 at the break.Â
The Aggies shot 60-percent from the field in the third quarter and put up 26 points to extend its lead to 20 points, 57-37, going into the fourth. Moretti had 10 points and two treys in the stanza.Â
Wesley outscored DelVal, 11-9, in the fourth but never got closer than 15 points of the lead as the Aggies held on for the 66-48 victory to advance to the tournament's championship game.
Moretti finished with a game-high 23 points to go with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Senior
Sarah Wills had a double-double, and nearly a triple-double, as she finished with 13 points, 10 boards, and six assists to go with two steals. Glenn also finished with 13 points and tacked on eight rebounds, two assist, and two steals. Hyman finished with seven points and
Camryn Shaw grabbed eight rebounds with two assists.Â
Lekeshia Brown-Myric led Wesley with 7-of-13 shooting from the field for 17 points and Angelique Gathers finished with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.Â
The Aggies will take on the host Lions in tomorrow's tournament championship game at 2 p.m.Â
