DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team honored its two seniors before its last game of the year Saturday night, but ultimately fell to visiting Wilkes University, 1-0, in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom tilt.
DelVal concluded its 2019 campaign, 1-14-1 overall and 0-7 in league play, but sent seniors
Calla Gibson and
Brooke Turnbaugh off with a nice pregame ceremony. Gibson and Turnbaugh have combined to play in 108 games for the Green and Gold.
Wilkes will enter the MAC Freedom playoff tournament as the four seed after finishing 4-3 in league play and 8-7-1 overall. The Colonels outshot DelVal 7-2 in the first half of this game and had six corner attempts, but the Aggies defense kept them off the board.
Keeper
Haley Young made four saves in the first stanza to help keep it 0-0 at the break.
Wilkes found the game winning tally in the 63
rd minute as Haley Evans sprinted to the corner and crossed a ball into the box that Emily Wirth directed into the far post from in tight for the 1-0 advantage.
DelVal finished the game with just the two shots, one was on target, and could not work any corner attempts. Young finished the game with four saves.
