DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team celebrated its seniors in its final game of the season on Saturday evening, but it was visiting Wilkes University that came away with the 6-0 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.
The Aggies wrapped up the season at 5-13-1 overall and winless in seven conference games. They honored their seven seniors,
Jared Camens, Austin Daniels, Ryan Dengler, Nick Gaetano, Mason Lee, Sean Maley and Andre Permyashkin with a special ceremony before the game to recognize all of their hard work and dedication to the program. Combined, the seven student-athletes have provide 33 goals, 24 assists, 90 points and 4 MAC Fall Academic Honor Rolls.
The Coloonels, who finished sixth in conference, closed out the season 2-4-1 in league play, and 8-7-3 overall, and will not qualify for the conference tournament this season.
In the first half of tonight's contest, Wilkes scored in the 10
th minute after Seth Fowler came racing down the right side of the field and fired a hard shot past keeper. The play was set up two quick passes by Kyles Bentz and Gabriel Crowley. Ten minutes later, Bentz scored on another tic-tac-toe play set up by Gabriel Nieves and Danny McGinley. Fowler closed out the scoring in the first half with his second of the game 17 minutes later on a play that was nearly identical to his first and was assisted by Matthew Horwedel and Bentz, making it 3-0 at the break.
The score remained the same into the second until Wilkes tacked on three more in less than a three minute span for the 6-0 victory.
Seniors Permyashkin and Daniels, led DelVal with a combined five shots, two on target, and
Josh Jarrett made four saves in goal.
For Wilkes, Kinzler made two saves while Fowler (2-0-4) and Bentz (1-2-4) led offensively with four shots a piece.
