DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley Unviersity women's volleyball team hosted MIddle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe King's College for its annual Dig Pink game, but came up short in a 3-0 match after a hard-fought first set. Set scores were 26-24, 25-12, and 25-11.
The Aggies (3-14 overall, 0-3 MAC Freedom) were impressive in the first set as they fought the Monarchs (15-3 overall, 2-2 MAC Freedom) to an early 7-7 tie before ripping off five straight points to go ahead, 12-7.
Krista Hiller led the charge from the service line.
DelVal extended its lead to 21-14 after kills by Hiller and
Tara Moffa, and a service ace from
Jess Ellick. Out of a timeout, King's countered with a 14-3 run to close the game and win by two, 26-24. The Aggies had eight kills in the first set and forced the Monarchs into 12 errors.
The rest of the night belonged to the visitors as they had 24 kills over the final two sets to DelVal's 14 and it never trailed. The Aggies were stellar defensively as they recorded eight blocks as a team led by six apiece from
Laura Sweger and
Jules Campbell. The team also notched 38 digs led by Ellick's 14 and another 10 from Moffa.
Caitlin Nemil dished out a team-high 17 assists. Offensively, Hiller and Sweger paced the squad with six kills apiece, and
Reilly Green followed with five.
DelVal is slated for a quick turnaround as it travels to Cheyney University tomorrow night for a 7 p.m. match.
