DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University football team earned its 26
th consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) victory, setting the record for the most leagues win a row, with a convincing 51-3 home triumph over Lebanon Valley College.
The win propelled the Aggies' win-streak to 26 games and gave them sole possession of the longest such streak in MAC history, surpassing Lycoming's 25-game mark set in 1991. The DelVal run began in week eight of 2016 with a 50-21 home win over FDU-Florham. This year's squad improved to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in league play.
The Aggies were in control right from the opening kickoff of today's contest at
Jamir Prevard received the kick at the two-yard line and took 98 yards the other way for a touchdown and a 6-0 DelVal lead.
The Dutchmen (5-1 overall, 3-1 MAC) responded on their first drive as they drove 35 yards on six plays and Nick Bentz connected on a 50-yard field goal to cut the deficit in half, 6-3.
The Aggies next drive went for 75 yards on 16 plays and spanned 9:55 of game time.
Donte Simmons had four carries in the drive, including a two-yard sweep play that got him in the end zone and gave DelVal a 13-3 lead that it carried into the second quarter.
Lebanon Valley went just 13 yards on its next drive and was forced to punt and the Aggies offense marched right back down the field with a nine-play, 85 yard touchdown drive. Fullback
Nate Pauls was the recipient of the touchdown pass from
Anthony Fontana, his second receiving score of the season, and put the Aggies up, 20-3.
Jamir Prevard picked off a pass from Kody Kegarise to put DelVal's offense back on the field and Colin Fosolka connected on a 38-yard field goal, his first of the season, to make it a 20-point game.
The Dutchmen's ensuing drive was another 3-and-out, and Patrick Clark's punt went just 22 yards to set the Aggies up at the LebVal 28-yard line. On 4
th-and-13, Fontana dropped back and found
John Davis for a 31-yard touchdown pass to make it 30-3. The score remained that way into the second half.
The Aggies had 236 yards of total offense in the first half and held the Dutchmen to just 82, including -4 yards rushing.
DelVal continued its dominance in the second half as sophomore safety
Blaine Netterman picked of his fourth pass in the last three games on the third play of the opening drive.
DaQuan Bohannan took over at quarterback for the Aggies in the second half and the offense didn't skip a beat. On his first drive, Bohannan drove the team 50 yards on eight plays and found
Cooper Russell on a slant in the end zone to make it 37-3. For the senior Russell, it was his first touchdown of the season.
Simmons ran in another touchdown in the third quarter and freshman
Chris Blackstone scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 23-yard run in the fourth. The Aggies' defense forced two more interceptions and preserved the 51-3 victory.
Prevard finished the game with two interceptions, four tackles, and the 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Anthony Tedesco led the squad with six tackles including one for a loss, and
Ryan Barrett followed with five.
Michael Nobile recorded four tackles including two behind the line of scrimmage to up his Division-III leading total to 20.
Vincent DiLeo also finished with four tackles, two TFL, with one pass break-up and two quarterback hurries.
As a unit, the defense held its opponent to just 100 yards of total offense for the second straight week. Lebanon Valley came into the game with the best rushing attack in the MAC, but it was held to just three yards in today's contest.
Offensively, the Aggies finished with 454 yards of offense including 198 yards on the ground and 254 yards through the air. Simmons rushed for 62 yards and two scores and
Wavell Wint finished with 51 yards on eight carries. Fontana completed 11-of-18 passes for 145 yards and two scores and Bohannan was 1-of-12 with a touchdown and one interception.
Lebanon Valley's Tyler Lutz recorded a game-high seven tackles and Josh Shotek finished with two sacks. Offensively, Hunter Wilson was held to just 13 yards rushing on 14 carries and Kegarise finished 12-for-25 passing for 97 yards with three interceptions.
The Aggies will held to Alvernia University to take on the Golden Wolves next Saturday at 12 p.m.
