24 Hours Out: Previewing #11/14 DelVal Football vs. Lebanon Valley

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University football team returns home looking to capture the outright title of the longest win-streak in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) history, its 26th in a row, and its sixth straight win this season, as it hosts Lebanon Valley College at 12 p.m.  

The Aggies enter the contest 6-1 on the year, and 5-0 in league play. They moved up one spot in both national polls after shutting out Wilkes University on the road last week, 42-0. DelVal now ranks 11th the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll, and 14th in the D3Football.com rankings. DelVal's lone setback on the schedule came at home in a, 24-18, four-overtime loss to Wesley College in week two. The Wolverines are currently 14th in the D3Football.com poll and four spots behind DelVal in the AFCA rankings after suffering a 45-38 loss at #10 Salisbury two weeks ago.

DelVal has seen the Dutchmen football team 36 times since 1965 and own a 24-12 edge in the all-time series. Over the last decade, the Aggies has won 9-of-10 meetings including last season's 52-7 triumph in Annville. In the last five showdowns, DelVal has outscored LebVal, 163-69. The Dutchmen's last win was in Doylestown in 2013, 34-31.
 
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
The best unit in the conference has also been one of the best in all of Divsion III this year. Amongst all teams in the country, the DelVal defense is tied for the most sacks with 29, fourth in total defense (189.6 avg. yds/gm.), ninth in points allowed (11.3 ppg), third in rush defense (43.4 avg. yds/gm.), fourth in tackles for loss (64) and 16th in passing defense (146.1 avg. yds/gm.). Michael Nobile leads the country in tackles for loss with 18 and his seven sacks are tied for the sixth most. The Aggies have turned over their opponents 14 times.

Last week's shutout at Wilkes was the first of the season as the squad permitted just 100 yards of total offense on 49 plays, and were held to just 20 yards rushing including the 22 rushing yards they had on the final two drives. DelVal had five sacks in the game from five different players and forced one turnover, an interception early in the second half.

Sophomore safety Blaine Netterman (Brick, Nj./Brick Memorial) came up with the pick, it was his third in the last two games. Joining Netterman in the defensive backfield is Justin Harris (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter), and Rashiek Harvard (Edison, Nj./John P. Stevens) who each have two picks this year and have combined for seven pass breakups and 33 sacks. Jamir Prevard (Galloway, Nj./Atlantic City) is the other corner back and he has broken up a team-high five passes with one interception and 15 tackles.

Sophomore defensive end Michael Nobile (Brick, Nj./Brick Memorial) has been limited to five tackles the last two weeks, but 3.5 of them have come in the back field, and two were sacks, to up his to up his Division-III leading total of TFL to 18. He leads the team this season with 7.5 sacks to go with 38 tackles.

Nobile is joined on the front line by nose guard Kenyonn Jones (Burlington, Nj./Glassboro) who leads the squad with 40 tackles including 7.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks. Yusuf Aladinov (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent) rounds out the d-line and he has recorded six tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery for a touchdown in the last three weeks.

The linebacking corps flaunts four upper classmen that have combined for 105 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, and three forced turnovers in Ryan Barrett (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Vincent DiLeo (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), Anthony Tedesco (Ocean, Nj./Ocean Twp.), and Billy Walsh (Brick, Nj./Brick Memorial).

Offensively, The Aggies are second in the MAC with 35.6 points per game and the balanced attack is posting 232.9 yards through the air and 151.3 yards on the ground. They have converted 39-of-90 (43.33%) of their third downs, but just 4-of-15 fourth downs. Six different players scored in Saturday's win at Wilkes, marking the sixth straight week that no one player has scored multiple touchdowns for the Aggies as they continue to spread the ball.

Senior quarterback Anthony Fontana (Brick, Nj./Brick Memorial) has completed 63.2% (105-166) of his passes and has thrown 15 touchdowns to eight different receivers with just three interceptions. On the ground he has rushed for 157 yards and five scores.

Returning All-American tight-end Dan Allen (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Wood) and senior wide out Aaron Nelson (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) pace the team with 21 receptions to go with 337, and 430 yards, respectively. Allen has five touchdowns and Nelson has four, while fellow senior Juwan Manigo (Windsor Mill, Md./Perry Hall) has hauled in 16 passes for 299 yards and three touchdowns.  

Two running backs have toted the ball over 50 times for over 250 yards and six touchdowns in Mario Nigro (South River, Nj./South River) and Donte Simmons (Bristol, Pa./Bristol).

On special teams, freshman Tahmir Barksdale (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) is averaging 15.53 yards per punt return with two returns for a touchdown, including a 64-yarder that went for six points in last week's win over the Colonels. Jamir Prevard (Galloway, Nj./Atlantic City) has returned nine kick-offs for 227 yards.

Senior kicker Nick Restaino (Bloomfield, Nj./Bloomfield) became the program's all-time leader in extra points made this season, he has converted 32-of-34 attempts but is just 1-for-5 on field goals.
 
SCOUTING THE DUTCHMEN
Lebanon Valley is coming off a 41-35 come-from-behind victory at Widener a week ago that catapulted it to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in MAC play. The Dutchmen were down 21-7 early in the second quarter, but fought back to make it a one-score game at the break. In the second half, they outscored the Pride, 27-7, behind three touchdowns from Hunter Wilson to earn the win.

Wilson was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week as he finished with 235 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 38 attempts. As a unit, the Dutchmen lead the conference in rushing with 187 yards per game, but are sixth in the league with 366.3 yards of total offense per showing. Junior quarterback Kody Kegarise has completed 92-of-170 passes for 1,059 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.

Tyler Diggs leads the receiving corps with 24 catches for 266 yards and two touchdowns and Cameron Niemeyer has caught 15 passes for 214 yards and three scores.

The defense is giving up 232.7 yards and 29.5 points per game, both rank in the middle of the pact in the MAC. On the ground, they permit 167.5 yards per game and through the air opponents go for 232.7. , but over 200 through the air. They've held opponents to just 31-of-83 (34.9%) on third down attempts, but allowed five

Sophomore linebacker Dillon Estes leads the unit with 59 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks to go with a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.  

As a unit, the defense has gotten to the quarterback for 17 sacks this season and forced 12 turnovers including nine interceptions.

Speical teams player Logan Grauer was named the MAC Special Teams Player of the Week earlier this week. He made a pivotal play in the Dutchmen's huge come-from-behind victory over the Pride. After trailing 28-14 at halftime and tying the game at 28-28 with two minutes left in the third quarter, Grauer came flying off the edge to block a Pride punt. It was then scooped up and scored by Travis Fischer to give the Dutchmen their first lead at 34-28 with 38 ticks to go in the third quarter.

Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. at Robert A. Lipinski Field inside James Work Memorial Stadium.
