WILKES-BARRE (PA) – Samantha Bloom and Kristina Kocher combined to allow just one run and five hits over 14 innings as host King's College swept a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader from Delaware Valley University, 4-1 and 4-0.
The sweep improved the Lady Monarchs to 20-18 overall and 8-6 in the conference while the Aggies fell to 14-16 and 4-10.
Bloom limited DelVal to one run and four hits in the opener. She got the run support she needed as the offense scored one in the first and three in the second.
The Aggies got on the board in the fifth as
Koraima Dudley led off with a single, advanced all the way to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by
Jess Ellick. They brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the seventh thanks to singles by
Caitlin Stoner and Dudley, but Bloom pitched out of the jam for the win.
Dudley was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Stoner and
Maddy O'Donohue each had singles.
Jamie Stefani took the loss with four runs allowed on six hits.
In the nightcap, Stefani took the mound again for DelVal and allowed four runs over six innings. She fanned two batters, moving her season total to 108 and just three shy of her own school single-season record.
King's scored early again as they notched two runs in the first. The Lady Monarchs then added single tallies in the fourth and the fifth. That was plenty for Kocher who hurled a one-hit shutout, permitting just a single by O'Donohue to start the game.
The Aggies will wrap up the 2018 season with a home non-conference doubleheader against Arcadia University on Tuesday, May 1 (3 p.m.).
