DOYLESTOWN (PA) –
Jamie Stefani became the all-time winningest pitcher in program history as the Delaware Valley University softball team swept visiting Penn State Abington in a non-conference twin-bill on Tuesday. The Aggies won game one 10-2 in five innings and took game two, 2-1.
DelVal got back to .500 overall as the two wins move them to 14-14 while the Nittany Lions fell to 6-18.
The Aggies wasted no time in the first game as Stefani and
Julie Burns hit back-to-back homers in the first inning for an early 2-0 lead. Burns picked up two more RBIs in the next inning with a bases-loaded single and DelVal was ahead 5-0.
Penn State scored two in the third inning and Caitlin Brasier earned an RBI, but the Aggies tacked on five in the fourth and shut the Nittany Lions down in the fifth to take the 10-2 victory.
Jess Burns and
Caitlin Stoner drove in two runs apiece and Stefani notched her second her and third RBI in that fourth frame. In the circle, Stefani went the distance and allowed just three hits while striking out five for the milestone, 30
th victory.
Julie Burns got the ball to start the second game and she went four innings allowing four hits, one earned run and striking out three in the win. The offense gave her all the support she needed in the third inning as
Maddy O'Donohue went deep for the first time this season and Stefani doubled home Nina Dudley to make it 2-0.
Penn State scored in the fourth inning thanks to a solo homerun by Becca Dougherty.
Dudley and O'Donohue scored three times on the afternoon and
Mandi Workman went 2-for-3 in game two.
The Aggies will play their final conference games of the season on Saturday, April 28 when they travel to King's College for a 1 p.m. start.
