Misercordia Sweeps DelVal Softball

DALLAS (PA) – Misericordia University scored in six of the 10 innings it batted in as the Cougars swept a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader from visiting Delaware Valley University, 11-0 and 10-2, on Sunday.

Misericordia moved into a tie for second place in the conference standings as it improved to 16-14 and 8-4. The Aggies fell to 12-14 and 4-8.

The Cougars scored four times in the second and added seven more in the third inning of the opener, which went just five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. Amana Butera and Brianna Holder each hit a home run and knocked in four runs in the game while Brooke Moyle hurled a three-hit shutout.

Julie Burns, Koraima Dudley and Jamie Stefani each had singles for DelVal. Stefani took the loss as she allowed six earned runs over three stanzas.

In the nightcap, Misericordia scored two runs in each of the first two innings for a 4-0 lead. The Aggies got on the scoreboard in the top of the third when Stefani hit a solo home run over the left field fence, the junior's third of the season.

The teams traded runs with DelVal getting an RBI single by Burns. The Cougars then put it away with five runs in the sixth inning to put the mercy rule into effect.

Stefani was 2-for-4 with the home run. Burns took the loss on the mound.

The Aggies will host Penn State Abington for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 24 (3 p.m.).
