DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University softball team celebrated its lone senior, Koraima Dudley, on Saturday but it was visiting DeSales University that spoiled the day with a doubleheader, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom, sweep.

The Bulldogs upped their marks to 13-11 overall and 9-3 in conference while the Aggies dropped to .500 (12-12) overall and 4-6 in the MAC Freedom.

In the opener, DeSales put up three runs in each of the first two innings on seven hits and three DelVal errors to get out to an early 6-0 lead. Cici Holqvist, Carly Benjamin and Alex Marasheski had RBI base knocks during the spurt. In the top of the third, Reilly Kerr singled home Erin Redden to make it a seven run game.  

Neither team scored again until the seventh inning when each squad got one run across the plate. For the Aggies, they had the bases loaded with two outs in the final frame and Caitlin Stoner worked a walk to make it 8-1, but the Bulldogs got the next batter to fly out to secure the win.

In the second game, it was DelVal that got on the board in the bottom of the first on a Jamie Stefani RBI single to left-center field.

DeSales took a 4-1 lead with one swing of the bat in the third inning as Benjamin hit a two-out, grand-slam homerun to deep center field.

However, the Aggies answered right back in the bottom of the frame with seven consecutive singles that amounted in five runs. Stoner, Makayla Gallagher and Morgan Hawk's base knocks all resulted in RBIs and Jess Ellick picked up an RBI in the frame on a fielder's choice to make it a 6-4 game.

The Bulldogs got one run back in the fifth when Hallie Muffley doubled to deep left field to score Holmqvist and they tied the game at 6-6 in the sixth thanks to a bases loaded single by Marasheski.

DelVal was held off the board the rest of the way and DeSales blew the game open with four runs in the seventh to earn the 10-6 victory in game two.

Benjamin finished the day with five RBIs and a run scored and Holmqvist led the team with four hits between the two games to go with three runs scored and an RBI. Kerr went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored in game one where Hailey Warner was credited with the win after pitching seven innings and striking out 10. In game two, Julia Testagrose pitched five innings in relief and earned the win after allowing three hits and striking out four.

For the Aggies, Stefani recorded her 300th career strikeout in game one, but suffered the loss in both contest. At the dish, she led the way with a 3-for-4 effort in each game along with two RBIs and a run scored. Dudley, who was honored in between games, added to her team-best total in runs scored for the year as she crossed the plate for the 16^th time this season and finished the day with a hit and two walks. Stoner finished the day with three hits, two RBIs and a run scored and Gallagher had two hits and an RBI.

The Aggies will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon with another MAC Freedom doubleheader at Misericordia University beginning at 12 p.m.
