Stefani Breaks Into Record Book, Aggies Softball Splits With Eastern

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Junior pitcher Jamie Stefanie tied the school's all-time record for career wins with her 29th in game one of the Delaware Valley University softball team's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader against Eastern University. The Aggies won game one, 10-4, but dropped game two, 4-1.

DelVal moved to 12-8 overall and 4-2 in league games with the split, while the Eagles now sit at 5-17 and 1-9.

Eastern's Alyssa Bolger got on second to lead off the game and came around to score on an RBI single by Shelby O'Neil to make it 1-0. The Eagles then loaded the bases in the second and scored on a wild pitch to go up by two.

DelVal got one back in the second with a pair of hits to start the inning and an RBI double by Maddy O'Donohue that scored Jess Burns.

In the fifth, Stefani worked her third walk of the game and Caitlin Stoner followed suit to set the table for Julie Burns. The freshman delivered with her second homerun of the season, a three run shot to left center, to give the Aggies a 4-2 lead.

The Eagles answered right back in the next inning with two runs to tie the game. Jessica Hamdan led off with a pinch-hit single and Rebecca Howard drove her in with a double. Howard later came around to score to the game at 4-4 going into the bottom of the sixth.

Jess Ellick and O'Donohue got back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the sixth for DelVal and Nina Dudley got aboard to load the bases for Stefani. Stefani took the first pitch to center field and the Aggies took the lead, 5-4. The next three batters walked to make it a four-run lead.  Ellick came up again and got her second hit of the frame and picked up two RBIs to extend the lead to 10-4 after six.

Stefani then got the three outs in the seventh and earned her 29th career victory to tie the school's all-time record for wins in just her junior year. She finished the game with four strike outs, three earned runs and seven hits against.

In game two, Eastern took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Emily Loomis got aboard with a single and came around to score on an error.

Starting pitcher, Julie Burns helped herself in the fourth inning as she laced a double to center field to score Stefani from second and tie the game at 1-1.

However, the Eagles responded the next inning as Bolger doubled home two runs to make it 3-1 and they never looked back. They added one more in the sixth and kept the Aggies off the board to take game two, 4-1.
