DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Mike Snellen scored with 17.5 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime before potting his fifth of the game 1:18 into the extra session to lift Kean University to a 9-8 road victory over Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon.
The loss moved the Aggies to 2-5 overall while the Cougars improved to 5-2.
With the game tied at 8-8 late in the fourth quarter, DelVal maintained possession and
Dylan Brasch fed
Jordan Smith, who wound up from 15 yards out and beat the keeper with a shot to the far post to make it 9-8 with 4:15 left in regulation.
Aggie keeper
Nic Brown made a big save at the other end to keep DelVal ahead, but Kean got the ball back and set up in the offensive zone with 1:03 left. Late in the possession, Snellen got the ball and curled into the middle before letting a low shot to the far post to tie the game and, ultimately, send it to overtime.
The Cougars controlled the opening faceoff in the extra session and called a timeout. Out of the timeout, it was
Tyler Roberto setting Snellen up top who sent another low shot on goal and past Brown for the 9-8 victory.
Neither team led by more than one goal all game, in a back-and-forth affair that saw eight different ties. Each team started the game with man-up tallies in the first four minutes of regulation before Roberto got his first of the day to make it 2-1 just over five minutes in.
Shortly after,
Chris Coyle set up
PJ Rafferty to knot the game at two apiece. After the Cougars regained the lead, it was Rafferty's turn to set up Brasch for his first tally of the day and a 3-3 contest going into the second.
Coyle gave the Aggies their first lead of the game as he netted his second goal of the day to make it 5-4 with 4:36 left in the second. DelVal maintained the advantage into the halftime break.
Snellen scored twice in the first three minutes of the third quarter, including a man-up goal, to put Kean back on top, 6-5. Coyle responded for the Aggies with a man-up goal of his own to tie the game and another tally with 2:46 left in the third to make it 7-6 heading into the fourth.
Neither team scored over the first 9:35 of the final stanza until Roberto tied the game at 7-7 with the Cougars' third man-up goal of the day, setting up the late game dramatics.
Brown made seven saves in goal for DelVal while the offensive attack was led by Coyle. He finished the game with four goals and two assists for six points while collecting five ground balls. Brasch and Rafferty each finished with a goal and an assist and
Jordan Smith finished with two goals to round out the scoring.
Jerad Wilson led the defense with a pair of caused turnovers to go with two ground balls and
Bryan Thompson was 11-for-19 on faceoffs.
For Kean, Snellen matched Coyle's line with four goals and two assists for six points and added two ground balls. Roberto followed with two goals and an assist and Jake Frankovits also had a three-point day on a goal and two helpers.
