Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops' Win Streak Comes To End In Heartbreaking Fashion At Centenary

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team saw its three-game win streak come to an end in heartbreak fashion as Centenary University staged a dramatic fourth quarter comeback to take a 75-74 victory on its home court.

The Aggies moved to 6-4 overall while the Cyclones improved to 2-9.

DelVal got out to a slow start and trailed by 10, 27-17, with 7:16 to play in the first half. From there, the squad went on to outscore Centenary 23-5 the rest of the stanza to take a 40-32 lead into the break.

Lybrant Robinson led the way with 10 points and six rebounds and Andre' Butler had eight points, as the duo each cashed in a pair of three's in the first half.

The Aggies got the first bucket of the second half, but the Cyclones fired back with 14-0 run to take a two point lead, 46-44, with just under 14 minutes to play in regulation. Divine Anderson and Billy Veras had five points apiece during the spurt.

The game was deadlocked again at 51-5, but DelVal pulled ahead to take a 70-63 lead with just 2:38 left in regulation after a Mike Cianciulli trey.

Centenary responded with five straight points including a 3-pointer from Tyler White that made it a two-point game with 1:14 on the clock. The Cyclones then fouled Robinson who hit both of his free-throws, but a jumper on the other end by Labelle kept it at a two-point contest, 72-70, with 36 seconds left.

After a timeout, Centenary fouled Damani Myers and the junior transfer calmly hit a pair from the line to put the Aggies up, 74-70, with 28 seconds remaining.

The Cyclones, without any timeouts, worked the ball down court and Emmanuel Doh connected from behind-the-arc to make it 74-73 with just 18 seconds on the clock. Doh then stole the ball from Butler and converted an easy layup to give Centenary the 75-74 lead with just eight seconds left in regulation.

Out of a timeout, DelVal got the ball to Robinson who drove to the basket for a layup attempt that was blocked by Veras to seal the one-point victory for the home team.

Robinson led the Aggies with 20 points and seven rebounds and dished out three assists, while Cianciulli came off the bench and contributed 16 points and six rebounds. Butler dropped in 15 points and Damani Myers led the team with five assists.

DelVal shot 28-for-53 (52.8%) from the field, 9-of-17 (52.9%) from 3-point land, and hit 9-of-10 free throws for the game.

The Cyclones shot 28-for-65 (43.1%) from the field, 10-for-24 (41.7%) from beyond the arc, and 9-of-14 (64.3%) from the charity stripe. They placed four players in double-digit scoring, led by LaBelle's 23 points to go with five assists. Veras posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go with two-blocked shots, including the late stuff to win the game. Doh finished with 12 points and seven boards and Anderson totaled 10 points.

The Aggies will wrap up the 2018 portion of its season at the Sponaugle New Year Tournament hosted by Franklin and Marshall next weekend. DelVal will tip off with host F&M at 3p.m. on Saturday.
