Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Skedzielewski's Milestone Leads To DelVal's Second Straight Win

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Senior team-captain Danielle Skedzielewski eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau for her career and led all scorers in the game with 19 points as the Delaware Valley University women's basketball team won its second straight game of the season. The Aggies downed visiting Rowan University, 68-64, in the non-conference affair.

The Profs (0-1) are the second New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) team that DelVal has downed already this season, after it moved past Stockton University on Saturday.

The Aggies (2-0) held a 12-7 lead after five minutes of play thanks to a pair of 3-pointers each from Skedzielewski and Dom Moser. DelVal maintained a three point lead after one quarter.

After Ashley Smink hit a trey to start the second, Rowan went on a 9-0 run to take its first lead of the game at 28-25 with 6:33 left before halftime. Kailyn Sytsma had five points during the spurt.

The Aggies responded by scoring the next six points on a three-ball by Skedzielewski and three consecutive free throws from Smink to regain the lead, 31-28.

In the waning seconds of the half, Skedzielewski went to the line with 999 career points. After missing the first attempt, she missed the second, but a lane violation against the Profs gave her another chance.
She put the free throw up, and released a sigh of relief and joy as her 1,000th career point went through the net.

The Aggies took a 39-36 lead into the break.

DelVal made six field goals in the third quarter, and four of them came from beyond the arc, as the defense held Rowan without a bucket in the final 5:13 of the stanza to take a 12 point, 58-46, lead into the final quarter.

The Profs made a strong push in the fourth and went on a 14-3 run to start the period and pull within one of the lead at 61-60 with 4:40 left in regulation.

The game came down to free-throws for the Aggies down the stretch and the team did just enough to seal the win by making 7-of-11, including a 2-for-2 effort by Smink that made it 68-64, and put the game out of reach with six seconds left.

Rowan's full court press forced DelVal into 30 turnovers that it turned into 25 points. DelVal forced 13 turnovers and converted them into nine points.

The Aggies shot 37-percent (17-46) from the field and 44.1-percent (15-34) from 3-point land. Skedzielewski added eight boards and three blocks to her 19 point total and Moser finished with 18 points and 8
rebounds to go with five assists and five steals. Smink also grabbed eight boards and dropped 12 points and four assists while freshman Emily Kutskel pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to go with three blocks and a steal. Sarah Wills came off the bench and shot 4-for-5 including a perfect 4-for-4 from deep for 12 points.

Rowan placed four players in double-digit scoring led by 15 from Dominique Peters who added five steals and seven rebounds. Sytsma and Olivia Rulon had 11 points apiece and Rulon matched Peters' game-high of five steals. Alexis Kriley accounted for 10 points and four assists.

DelVal will take to the road for the first time this season as it heads to the Scotty Wood Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College beginning on Friday, November 16. It will face William Patterson in the first game of the tournament at 1 p.m.
