Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DelVal Men's Basketball Drops 72-58 decision at Hood

FREDERICK (MD) – Hood College jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as Delaware Valley University men's basketball team trailed the duration of the game en route to a 72-58 road loss.
With today's result, both the Blazers and the Aggies moved to 1-4 on the year.

Nathanial Christian got Hood going with a trey that sparked an 11-0 run over the first 4:23 of the game.

DelVal punched right back with an 11-2 run to pull within two, 13-11, with 10:44 still to play before the half. Four different Aggies scored in the spurt including Austin Stoeckel who had a pair of layups.

After a couple of buckets by the Blazers, the Aggies' Jadon Robinson found Damian Washington who hit from beyond the arc before he setup Andre Butler for a jumper to cut the deficit to one, 17-16.

However, Hood outscored DelVal 10-6 the rest of the stanza to take a 27-22 lead into the locker room.

The Aggies came out in the second half and scored five straight points to tie the game for the first time. Ryan Naccarato hit a three off an assist from Washington and Matsinye hit a pair of free throws to make it 27-27.

From there, it was all Hood over the next seven minutes as the Blazers used a 25-5 run to take their largest lead of the game, 52-32. Christian and Mason Wang each scored seven points including one 3-pointer apiece to lead the way during the run.

With the Aggies still trailing by 20, 59-39, the offense came to life and used a 15-4 run to get back to within single digits. Matsinye hit seven free throws including the last two to make it 63-54 with 3:16 left in regulation.

The nine points was the closest DelVal would get the rest of the way as Hood ran away with the 72-58 final and their first win of the season.

Matsinye finished with a team-high 16 points, 13 in the second half, to go with eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Butler pulled down a career-high 17 boards, including six offensive, to lead all players in the game while Washington pitched in 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Aggies shot 31.1-percent from the field and were 7-of-30 from deep.

The Blazers got 30 points from their bench including 12 from Wang and eight from Kobe Butler. Luke Casey finished with a double-double of 13 rebounds and 11 points while Christian led the squad with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks.
