Box Score WILLIAMSPORT (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team hit the hardwood for the first time in 16 days and posted a 75-70 triumph over Rosemont College n the opening round of the Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament at Lycoming College.
The victory got the Aggies back to the .500 mark (5-5) as well as a berth in the tournament championship game (Friday, December 30 at 3 p.m.) against the host Warriors, who improved to 11-1 on the year with a 65-47 win over Fredonia College. Rosemont fell to 4-6.
DelVal opened with seven of the game's first nine points before the Ravens went on a 13-1 run to take a 15-8 lead with 13:12 remaining. Rosemont was still up four with 6:05 left on the clock when the Aggies responded with an 18-5 run to take a 39-30 advantage at halftime.
Tyliek Kimbrough scored five points in the spurt while
Andre' Butler and
JaDon Robinson added four points apiece.
DelVal stayed hot to start the second stanza as it built the lead up to as many as 20, 57-37, near the midway point. The Aggies were still up 13 with two minutes to go when Rosemont made a late rally and pulled to within five, 73-68, on a Jihaad Fluellen 3-pointer with 38 seconds left. DelVal then turned the ball over, but the Ravens missed a layup and
Alex Matsinye grabbed the defensive rebound and was fouled. The sophomore hit both free throws for a three-possession lead and the Aggies had the win.
DelVal held a 36-15 advantage in points in the paint. The Aggies also connected on 16 of 24 free throw attempts (66.7 percent) while Rosemont was just 6-for-14 (42.9 percent) from the line. Kimbrough paced DelVal with 16 points before fouling out.
Andre' Butler had 11 points and eight rebounds while Matsinye and
Austin Stoeckel also contributed 11 points apiece.
Mike Cianciulli added 10 points and
Tyrea Williams had nine points and seven boards in the win.
Clayton Wolfe notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Ravens. Jamier Hughes added 11 points in the setback.
