Aggie Women Win Gallaudet Holiday Tournament With 75-43 Rout Of Trinity Washington

WASHINGTON (DC) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team pulled away in the second half en route to a 75-43 victory over Trinity Washington University in the championship game of the Gallaudet University Holiday Tournament on Saturday.

The Aggies improved to 3-7 on the season while the Tigers dropped to 4-5. In Friday's first round, DelVal defeated Catholic University, 64-63 in overtime and Trinity Washington won 55-46 against the host Bison. The Cardinals had a 65-30 triumph over Gallaudet in the consolation game.

The Aggies recorded the first seven points of the contest over the opening 2:08. Senior Kelsey Kilpatrick had five points and freshman Danielle Skedzielewski added a layup. DelVal had a 13-7 advantage with 4:20 to go in the period before scoring the final six points of the quarter. Skedzielewski registered four points and senior Eireann Anastasi sank a jumper.

The Tigers began the second stanza with a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to three (19-16) with five minutes on the clock. Freshman Whitney Hall poured in seven of the nine points. Skedzielewski had the final basket of the half, draining a three with seven seconds remaining, and DelVal led 29-21 at the break. Skedzielewski had 11 points followed by Hall with 10.

The Aggies led 37-29 with 8:07 on the third quarter clock. They then orchestrated a 16-0 surge to pull away, owning a 53-29 lead with 2:32 left. Five different players scored in the run, led by Skedzielewski's six. The Tigers closed to within 16 (55-39) with 9:10 to go in the fourth but DelVal put together the next nine points and was ahead 64-39. The Aggies had the final 10 points of the contest with freshman Monika Smallwood responsible for six of them.

Skedzielewski ended the game with a season-high 17 points and added seven rebounds. Anastasi followed with 15 points and also grabbed seven boards, dished seven assists and had three steals. Both players were named to the all-tournament team with Anastasi garnering MVP honors. She totaled 43 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and eight steals in the two contests, including a career-high 28 points against Catholic. Anastasi also moved into seventh place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,360 points. Kilpatrick finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Freshman Brianna Rivello chipped in with seven points, six rebounds and four assists.

Hall led Trinity Washington with 15 points. Junior Blessing Hayes contributed 12 points. Freshman Alyssa King totaled nine points and senior Asha Curry corralled seven rebounds.

DelVal returns to action on Wednesday, December 16 with a non-conference home game against The College of New Jersey (6:00 p.m.).
