14TH-RANKED DELVAL WRESTLERS POST 27-18 WIN AT NO. 24 TCNJ

EWING (NJ) – As they have done numerous times this year, nationally-ranked wrestlers Aaron Karns and Zach Roseberry picked up wins at 197 pounds and heavyweight respectively to break an 18-18 tie and give 14th-ranked Delaware Valley College a 27-18 victory at No. 24 The College of New Jersey.

The win was the third straight for the Aggies as they improved their dual meet record to 10-5 on the season. They will have their regular-season finale tomorrow night (7:00 p.m.) at home against 25th-ranked Centenary College. TCNJ fell to 8-7.

The Lions, behind their nationally-ranked wrestlers at 174 and 184 pounds, rallied from an 18-9 deficit to tie the match after eight weight classes. At 174, seventh-ranked Zach Zotollo (18-3) pinned Ben Schweiger (9-13) in 5:57 while Brian Broderick (10-3) blanked Connor Gabriel (8-12), 6-0, at 184 pounds.

Karns hit the mat next and the returning All-American and seventh-ranked 197-pound wrestler, cruised to a 7-0 shutout of Frank Crocco (5-6). The win was a team-best 22nd for Karns (22-4) and it gave Delaware Valley a 21-18 lead.

That left the match in the hands of Roseberry as the freshman and ninth-ranked heavyweight put his 19-5 record up against Dan Wojtaszek (5-9). The two went into the second period and Roseberry was in the down position. He quickly got a reversal and pinned Wojtasek just 12 seconds into the period for the 27-18 Aggie victory.

Both teams picked up forfeit victories at the start of the match as Kevin Corrigan (11-6) was awarded one for TCNJ at 125 pounds while Delaware Valley's Connor Kirkegard (12-7) had his arm raised at 133.

Steve Schneider (6-2) gave the Lions a 9-6 lead as he picked up a 5-2 decision over Pat Davis (12-9) at 141. However, the Aggies earned a pin and two decisions over the next three weight classes for an 18-9 advantage.

The run began at 149 pounds when Vinny Fava pinned Mike Shaughnessy (8-7) 56 seconds into the second period (3:56) for his 20th win in 23 matches.

Returning All-American Emmanuel Ajagbe followed with an 8-2 triumph over Joe Paton (6-6) at 157. The win improved Ajagbe to 13-5 on the year and the senior also moved into a tie for fifth place on the school's all-time list with 109 victories.

Senior Alec Horan made it three straight for Delaware Valley as his 2-0 blanking of Jesse Thorsen (1-5) at 165 pounds gave him 18 wins in 25 matches this season. TCNJ tied the match after the next two weights, but Karns and Roseberry sealed the deal once again for the Aggies.
