DELVAL WRESTLERS TAKE ALL THREE MATCHES AT HOME QUAD

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College wrestling team had its first home contests of the season as it hosted a quad match and the Aggies came away with three victories. They opened with a 22-13 triumph over Division II East Stroudsburg University and followed with 50-3 and 40-6 victories over Division III squads Gettysburg College and Hunter College respectively.

The wins lifted Delaware Valley record to 7-4 on the season. East Stroudsburg fell to 3-6. Gettysburg and Hunter College also wrestled against each other and Hunter came away with a 41-8 win as its record moved to 3-9 after the evening. Gettysburg's record fell to 3-9 with its two losses.

The Delaware Valley-East Stroudsburg match came down to the final two weight classes as it was tied at 13-13 after the first eight. Returning All-American Aaron Karns hit the mats for the Aggies at 197 and he cruised to a 5-0 shutout of Tyson Searer for a 16-13 team advantage.

Freshman heavyweight Zach Roseberry looked to clinch the victory for Delaware Valley but, after a scoreless first period, he gave up an early second-period escape to Tyler Richardson to trail 1-0. Late in the period, Roseberry registered a takedown and he put Richardson on his back with eight seconds to go for the pin and win.

The Warriors picked up the first points of the match at 125 as Anthony Marino, who gave the tying point on a stalling call with two seconds left in regulation, came back with a takedown with seven seconds left in the first overtime for a 5-3 win over Zac Haynes.

However, Delaware Valley registered a major decision and three decisions in the next four weights for a 13-3 lead. Connor Kirkegard started the run with a 5-3 triumph over Joey Kratochvil at 133 and David Davidson followed with a 3-0 blanking of Marius Kola 141. Vinny Fava then dominated Joseph Hoy at 149, en route to a 19-8 major decision. Returning All-American followed with an 11-7 win over Eric Howey at 157.

East Stroudsburg's two fifth-ranked national wrestlers took the mats next and their decision and major decision made it 13-10. Braden Turner had a 4-0 shutout of Nick Della Fera and Brendan McKeown added a 17-5 major over Ben Schweiger. Luke DeLuise then tied the match thanks to an 8-1 decision over Connor Gabriel at 184. The rest belonged to Karns and Roseberry for the Delaware Valley win.

The Aggies match with Gettysburg featured just four bouts as the Bullets forfeited six weight classes. Delaware Valley won three of the four starting with Kirkegard's pin of Holt Johnson in just 87 seconds. Ajagbe earned a 16-0, technical fall victory over Collin Furth and Schweiger had an 8-3 decision over Manny Markantone. Gettysburg's lone points came at 197 pounds where Camden Stoops posted a 5-2 decision over Evan Seaman.
