SWARTHMORE DOWNS DEL VAL, 81-72, IN MEN'S HOOPS

SWARTHMORE (PA) – Karl Barkley hit six, 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 26 points as host Swarthmore College downed Delaware Valley College, 81-72, in a non-conference game.

The Garnet improved to 3-6 on the season while the Aggies fell back to the .500 mark with a 4-4 record.

elaware Valley used a 10-2 run, including five by Francis Arnold, midway through the first half to take a 20-11 advantage. Swarthmore responded 22 of the game's next 32 points to take a 33-30 lead at the intermission. Barkley hit a trio of treys in that spurt.

The Aggies took their lone lead of the second half with 15:54 remaining as Daulton Derr connected on a layup for a 41-40 advantage. The Garnet scored seven straight and were still up three, 50-47, with 11:32 remaining. They then went on an 11-2 spurt, including two bombs by Barkley, to go up 12 and Delaware Valley never got closer than six points the rest of the way.

Barkley hit eight of 11 shots from the field, including a 6-for-7 effort from beyond the arc. He also added five rebounds and two steals. Jay Kober added 15 points and 11 rebounds while Joe Keedy had 11 points, eight boards and three assists. Jordan Federer and Will Gates hit double digits with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Jay Donovan paced Delaware Valley with 20 points while Arnold came off the bench to pour in 13 points. Daulton Derr added 12 points while Jeremy Beckett finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
