WILKES-BARRE (PA) – King's College went on an 8-0 run early in the contest and never looked back as the Lady Monarchs posted a 61-57 triumph over visiting Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.
Emily Soper hit back-to-back layups in a 33-second span to give the Aggies (6-9, 0-4 Freedom) a 6-5 lead 2:11 into the contest. The Lady Monarchs (10-5, 4-0) responded with four straight layups, including two by Kaitlin Michaels to take a six-point advantage.
King's was still up seven , 24-17 with 7:15 remaining in the first half when it scored 17 of the next 23 points in the game to take a 41-23 advantage into the intermission. The lead ballooned to as many as 24 in the second stanza and Delaware Valley never got closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Soper finished with 15 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks, but struggled through a 7-for-18 shooting effort from the field.
Brittany Battinieri was just 5-for-20, including a 3-for-10 showing from beyond the arc, and notched 13 points.
Jackie Shunkwiler added seven points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
Paige Carlin had all 12 of her points in the first half for King's. She also added seven rebounds and three assists. Brittany Muscatell contributed 12 points while Molly Dahl added nine points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
