ST. DAVIDS (PA) – The Delaware Valley College men's basketball team concluded its 2009-10 season with a 75-69 loss at Eastern University in Saturday afternoon's Freedom Conference game.
The Aggies, who are just two years removed from a 3-22 (0-14 Freedom) campaign, went 12-13 overall and 5-9 in the conference under second-year head coach
Casey Stitzel. The Eagles improved to 13-12 overall and 9-5 in the league and will host Misericordia University in a Freedom semifinal game next Wednesday.
Delaware Valley held a 33-30 lead at the intermission and was still up three, 58-55, after
Jon Evans drained a trey with six minutes to go. However, Eastern scored the next five points to take the lead for good. The Eagles never built more than a two-possession lead and, in fact, were just up two, 71-69, with 30 ticks left. Derek Wright was followed a second later and hit both foul shots. The Aggies missed at the other end and Chris Myers sealed the deal for Eastern with a pair of free throws with nine seconds left.
Jones led the Aggies with 20 points and five assists while, in his final collegiate game,
Darryl White notched 18 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. Alex Nelson paced the Eagles with a game-high 23 points.
