SENIORS LEAD THE WAY IN 81-73 WIN OVER WILKES

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College senior quartet of Jon Evans, Brian Hilinski, Carroll Mitchell and Darryl White celebrated the final home game of their collegiate careers by combining for 69 points in the Aggies' 81-73, Freedom Conference victory over Wilkes University.

The win pushed Delaware Valley over the .500 mark at 12-11 and it kept its playoff hopes alive with a 5-7 mark in the Freedom Conference. The Aggies are two games behind King's College and Misericordia, which are tied for third place, and two and half games behind second-place Eastern University. Delaware Valley travels to Manhattanville College and Eastern next week while the top four teams qualify for the postseason. The loss dropped Wilkes to 13-9 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

It was all Aggies in the first half as they connected on 19 of 33 shots (57.6 percent), including an 8-for-13 (61.5 percent) effort from 3-point land. They quickly jumped out to a 16-3 lead in the opening three minutes, including four straight treys to end the spurt. Evans hit three in a row while Hilinski drained the last one.

The lead ballooned to 21 at the halfway part of the half and went up to as many as 25 in the stanza before Delaware Valley took a 49-30 lead into the intermission. Evans drained five treys and had 17 points while White had 12 points as each shot 6-for-7 from the field. Hilinski added two 3-pointers and eight points while Mitchell had four points and three assists.

The Colonels opened the second half by scoring 19 of the first 28 points to make it a 58-49 contest with 12:16 left on the clock. The Aggies responded with nine of the next 11, including another bomb by Evans, to bump the lead back up to 16.

Delaware Valley still held a double-digit advantage, 75-64, with 3:28 to go when Tyler Bretznitsky scored four points for Wilkes in a 7-2 run to make it a six-point game with 1:17 remaining. However, James Jones hit four straight free throws down the stretch to ice the game for the Aggies.

White was 10-for-13 from the field, including a pair of alley-oop dunks, and finished with 26 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Evans sank six of eight 3-point attempts and ended with a career-best 22 points. Hilinski was a perfect 3-for-3 from long range and had 13 points on the day while Mitchell added eight points and six assists. Jones, a junior scored eight points and dished out a game-high seven assists.

Kendall Hinze came off the bench and notched 18 points and nine rebounds for the Colonels. Tom Kresge finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots while Breznitsky and Anthony Gabriel added 11 points apiece. Gabriel also had seven rebounds to his credit.
