EWING (NJ) – The College of New Jersey shot 53.3 percent from the field in the second half as the Lions rallied from a three-point halftime deficit and posted a 79-69 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College, in a non-conference game.
The Aggies will take a 4-4 overall record (2-0 and tied for first in the Freedom Conference) into the holiday break. They will now hit the court again until January 3 when they take on Worcester State College at the Lycoming College Tournament. Saturday's win improved The College of New Jersey to 2-7.
Delaware Valley, behind 10 points apiece by
Jeremy Beckett and
James Jones, took a 35-32 lead into the break. The Aggies still held a 47-45 advantage with 10:38 remaining when the Lions went on an 11-0 run to take a commanding nine points lead. They upped the lead to as many as 11 and Delaware Valley could not get any closer than seven points down the stretch. The College of New Jersey finished the second stanza 16-for-30 from the field and 13-for-17 from the foul line.
Donovan Small paced the Lions with 20 points while Kyle Rawson and Steve Siracusa had 19 points apiece. Siracusa also added 10 rebounds and five assists.
Jones was a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line and finished with a season-high 27 points. Beckett had a double-double with 17 points and 18 rebounds.
