DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Jay Frank and Aaron Syvertsen scored 20 points apiece to pace The College of New Jersey to a 71-61 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a non-conference game.
It was the first game for both teams since mid-December and they both saw their overall records go to 5-5.
The College of New Jersey used a 12-3 run early in the first half to take a 21-12 advantage. Syvertsen had five points to lead the spurt. The advantage went up to as many as 13 before the Lions took a 29-18 lead into the intermission.
The College of New Jersey opened the second stanza with a 13-6 run to build its largest advantage of the game at 42-24. The Aggies rallied and scored 19 of the next 23 points to cut their deficit to three, 46-43, with 9:03 remaining.
Darryl White notched seven points in the run while
Jason Goldheimer and
James Jones had six apiece.
However, the Lions scored six straight, including buckets by Frank and Syvertsen, to bump the lead back to nine. Delaware Valley was still hanging around and was down five before Syvertsen hit a layup with 4:19 remaining and drained a long 3-pointer with 50 seconds later to put the contest away.
In addition to his 20 points, Frank notched seven assists and six rebounds. Steve Siracusa had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
White, a transfer center, tallied 27 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots in his first game with the Aggies.
Chris Ellis finished with 13 points while Jones added 11.
