AGGIES FALL IN FINAL SECONDS TO MISERICORDIA

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Dom Del Prete hit an off-balanced 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds remaining to lift Misericordia University to a 51-50 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.

The Aggies (8-9, 3-5 Freedom) led throughout most of the contest, including by as many as 12 early in the second half. They had also done the job defensively against Del Prete, the Cougars' leading scorer (17.6 avg) who was 3-for-14 from the field and had just six points as the game entered the final minute. However, a Delaware Valley turnover with 35 seconds left gave Misercordia the ball down two at 50-48.

Robbie Johnson missed on a layup, but got his own rebound and passed it back out. Del Prete eventually got the ball and missed a jumper with 12 ticks to go, but the rebound went off an Aggie player and out of bounds, giving the Cougars another chance. With the game clock winding down, Del Prete took a feed from Marcus Little on the left side, and swished a 3-pointer for a 51-50 Misericordia advantage.

Delaware Valley tried to inbound the ball to halfcourt and call time, but the ball was dropped and it rolled out of bounds. Del Prete was fouled on the inbounds pass with 1.2 seconds and he went to the foul line. He missed the front end of a one-in-one situation, but Little grabbed the offensive board and ran the clock out for the come-from-behind win.

A sloppy first half saw both teams shoot under 40 percent from the field and combine 21 turnovers. Delaware Valley did score six of the final eight points of the half to take a 28-20 advantage into the break. The Aggies then scored the first four of the second stanza on back-to-back layups by Darryl White for their largest lead of the game. However, Misericordia chipped away at the deficit and pulled out the victory thanks to Del Prete's late-game heroics.

Ethan Eichhorst came off the bench and was 7-for-10 from the field, en route to a team-high 19 points for the Cougars. Del Prete had eight rebounds to go along with his nine points while Mark Williams added seven points.

White posted another double-double for Delaware Valley as he was 7-for-11 from the field and finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots. Jon Evans and Jason Goldheimer were next with six points apiece off the bench, and Carroll Mitchell dished out a game-high six assists.
