Pento, who was the DelVal head women’s basketball coach from 1984-93, is in his seventh year as an assistant with the Aggies. He brings years of experience to the staff of one his former stars in Hogan (nee Rotz).
With Pento on the staff, DelVal has reached the MAC Freedom semifinals and the ECAC quarterfinals in three of the last five years.
Pento notched a 116-107 record with five conference playoff berths and five ECAC playoff appearances in his nine years. He took over a program that had gone winless (0-19) the year before his arrival and produced a 12-9 mark in his rookie campaign. It was one of eight, double-digit victory seasons for Pento. His greatest squad was the 1998-99 edition as they went 20-7, reached the MAC playoffs and claimed the ECAC South Region championship.
After DelVal, Pento became the head boy’s basketball coach at New Hope-Solebury and led the team to its first 20-win season (21-9) as well as a state quarterfinal playoff appearance. He later became the boy’s basketball coach at Palisades High School and inherited a program that was a combined 3-63 over the prior three years. Pento led them to a 10-14 record in his first year.
Pento has also worked with numerous AAU teams, has been a regional director for the Pennsylvania State Keystone Games and has been a guest lecturer and motivational speaker over the years.
