Women’s Basketball Battles Back, Cuts Deficit Late in 86–70 Setback at FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. –  The Delaware Valley women's basketball team fell behind early but battled back with multiple runs, ultimately dropping an 86-70 decision to FDU-Florham on Wednesday night.

The Aggies trailed by double digits in the opening four minutes before Alexis Lease-Springer knocked down a three to halt the early scoring drought. Ciana Feliciano followed with a layup to trim the deficit to five, but the Devils closed the first quarter on a 17-3 run to build a 29-10 advantage.

Down 21 early in the second, Whitney Evans sparked the Aggies with a three, helping DelVal play the Devils nearly even over the opening five minutes of the frame to cut the margin to 17. Evans added another triple later in the quarter, while Aubrey Ennis connected from long range in the closing minutes, but FDU-Florham surged late to take a 52-26 lead into halftime.

The Devils opened the second half with six straight points, but Juliana Harris answered with a layup to ignite a 16-1 Aggies run that trimmed a 32-point deficit down to 17. Harris scored six points during the stretch, while Evans added five, including her third three-pointer of the night. DelVal matched the Devils the rest of the quarter, heading into the final period trailing 63-46.

Delaware Valley continued to chip away in the fourth, holding FDU-Florham to just a two-point edge over an extended 8:27 stretch. Alexis Wright scored nine points in the period, while Evans buried two more three-pointers. Anijah Davis and Wright closed out the game with five combined points at the free-throw line and in the paint, as the Aggies cut the final margin to 16.

Evans led the scoring for the Aggies with 21 points shooting over 40% from both the field and the three-point range. Feliciano led the battle at the boards pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.

DelVal is back in action this Saturday, Feb. 7 at home when they host Arcadia at 1 p.m.
